The Municipal Public Accounts Committee Meeting (MPAC)

The Municipal Public Accounts Committee Meeting (MPAC) is currently underway at City Hall’s Council Chamber. This important session brings together key municipal leadership, including Acting City Manager Ted Pillay, Chairperson of MPAC Itumeleng Ranyele, Acting COO Lonwabo Ngoqo, COGTA representatives, and NMBM Senior Municipal Management.

In his remarks, the Acting City Manager emphasized the need for a robust tracking system to monitor the implementation of resolutions from MPAC meetings. He further stressed the urgency for MPAC to develop a detailed work plan to guide the upcoming financial year. A Section 32 Committee will be tasked with reviewing this plan and providing informed recommendations to strengthen future performance.

Stakeholders raised critical concerns about recurring challenges that hinder progress, noting that these must be urgently addressed to ensure resolutions are effectively implemented. National Treasury stressed the importance of achieving an 80% resolution implementation rate by the end of the current financial year, a target that requires a collaborative and focused effort.
