The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, led by Executive Mayor Cllr Babalwa Lobishe, recently hosted a Special AIDS Council Meeting at the City Hall Council Chamber. The meeting was attended by Speaker of Council Cllr Eugene Johnson, Lineo Mokonenyane (Deputy Director of HIV/AIDS), Bantu Waka (Department of Health NSO Co-Ordinator), and senior municipal officials.

The main focus of the meeting was to address the ongoing battle against AIDS, identify the most affected areas, and explore intervention strategies. A presentation on the Kwanobuhle LoveLife Youth Centre highlighted its mission to empower young people with the skills and knowledge to make informed decisions about their physical, mental, social, and economic well-being.

The Executive Mayor emphasized that this meeting marks the beginning of planning for a comprehensive program aimed at combating HIV, AIDS, and Tuberculosis (TB) across the Metro. Recognizing the devastating impact these diseases continue to have, the Mayor stressed the importance of coordinated efforts and targeted interventions to reduce infections and provide support for those affected.

The Executive Mayor called on everyone to actively participate, contribute ideas, and suggest practical solutions, encouraging that this meeting be a catalyst for renewed commitment in the fight against these diseases.
